Altar Boys

Serving as an altar boy is an intimate way to participate in our beautiful liturgy. Altar boys are welcome from age 9 & older and can participate as their time allows. Church Choir

Unique to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Ipswich our choir sings year-round led by choir director Paula Foukas. Our choir currently meets weekly on Wednesday evenings at 7:00. Its commitment & dedication to enhancing our service is evident in their beautiful voices. Events Committee

The events committee was formed to plan fundraising events for our parish. Amongst them they have organized, Tastings, Jazz Nights, Comedy Evenings, Musical performances & the annual Trivia Night. Meetings are held typically during the fall, winter & spring with meetings planned around upcoming events. Working together in a social & fun way while being able to assist our parish is the goal. G.O.Y.A

Our small intimate church boasts a large vibrant youth group. Welcoming 12 years olds through high school, our Goya which began in 1961 has been a constant with trips both local & across the country, philanthropic endeavors by its members, such as decorating & bringing gifts to the Philoxenia House annually and with the making of life-long friendships amongst its members. Greek Festival Committee

Yearly, for over 50 years our festival, now held every July is a two day celebration of our heritage, culture & great food! Thousands attend this event dancing & tasting our delicacies. The event is held outside of the Mansion on our Hellenic Center’s beautiful manicured grounds. Much effort goes into this event which is truly a community effort, where all parishioners join in together to contribute to its yearly success.

Greek School

Greek School at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was established in 1924. Keeping our heritage alive with our beautiful language is of utmost importance. Our teachers are experienced and highly qualified to work with our children. Please contact Joanne Ortins at info@greekorthodoxchurchipswich.org to enroll your child into the program. Greek School commitment is once a week in the afternoons on Tuesdays or Thursdays, depending on their level.

Hellenic Center Committee

This important committee is a group of volunteers who serve to oversee the management and maintain the beauty of the Hellenic Center mansion and properties. They meet monthly to discuss staff, activities of the Hellenic Center and projects and also to manage the budget. If you are interested in joining please contact Connie James at 978-886-1317.

Melissa Society

In the early 1900’’s our women’s group, the Melissa Society began and continues this day as a large part of our church life. In addition to their extensive philanthropic and fundraising activities, they also gather for social activities on a regular basis. They meet monthly on the first Wednesday. Their efforts have yielded many new purchases & renovations to our beloved church over the years. Sunday School

Children from Kindergarten through 7th grade meet weekly on Sundays with dedicated teachers inspiring them with religious education during the school year beginning with the kick-off Pizza Bingo party in September. Children also participate in the annual Christmas Pageant, March 25th celebration, and the Easter Egg Hunt.
